Edinboro’s story starts long before it became a college town and summer lake retreat. The area was first inhabited by the Eriez, Iroquois, and Cornplanter Native American groups, who referred to the region as Conneauttee, meaning “land of the living snowflake.” In 1801, settler William Culbertson built a gristmill near the outlet of Conneauttee Lake, and the settlement grew around farms, churches, and early schools.
